What Can You Do?

McHenry County needs people willing to get involved. Here are a few of the things you can do to help promote Democratic candidates and restore a government that represents your needs:

Become an Election Judge

The election process is the foundation of our democracy. It is the job of the election judges to insure that the election is run in a fair and legal manner. The Office of the McHenry County Clerk needs insure that the requisite number of judges are available from each political party to staff every poling place. If there are not sufficient judges of a given party available, the county clerk will substitute judges from other parties to fill the positions. The county clerk compensates election judges for the time spent on election day and time spend in training.

Be a Poll Watcher

The McHenry County Democratic Party needs volunteers to serve as poll watchers. Poll watchers monitor the election for irregularities. A poll watcher may challenge a voter if they know that voter is not entitled to vote at that poling place. The may also document and report irregularities that may effect the results of the election.

Be a Democratic Precinct Representative

Precinct representatives act as the liaison between the people in their precinct and the Democratic party. Precinct representatives are also responsible for performing the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) tasks, and distributing campaign literature to the voters in their precinct. As a precinct representative, you would have the right to vote at the monthly Democratic Party Central Committee meetings. Although it is too late to run to be an elected precinct representative in this election cycle, the McHenry County Democratic Party can appoint you to serve as a precinct representative. Even if your precinct currently has a precinct representative, it is possible to be appointed to an adjacent precinct that does not have representation.

Come Meet Us!

Meetings of the McHenry County Democratic Central Committee are held at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. The meeting are open to all and we welcome the chance to meet with you and for you to see what we are all about. The location of the meeting varies and is posted on the McHenry County Democratic Party web site approximately a week before the meeting.
